What I Do

  1. Provide academic support, motivation, and guidance throughout the school year – reading, written expression, executive functioning.
  2. Offer one-on-one or small group instruction either online or in person.
  3. Ensure your child is on track with assignments and coursework.
  4. Assist parents and teachers in using assessment results to drive instruction and interventions.

What?  Reading involves complex processes and skills.

Who?  Some students need help uncovering strategies and practicing in reading. In other words, more miles on the page. 

What is needed to produce the seemingly effortless performance of a fluent reader? The presence and role of underlying processes and knowledge, such as decoding fluency, processing speed, vocabulary, letter sound fluency, and sight
words fluency form key elements to unlocking the code.


Together, we work to gain control and confidence in effective reading strategies and focused practice.

Writing What? Writing is a complex task. In fact, it is the most complex literacy skill to master.

Catherine Snow et al. (2005, p. 86) summarize the real importance of spelling for reading as follows: “Spelling and reading build and rely on the same mental representation of a word. Knowing the spelling of a word makes the representation of it sturdy and accessible for fluent reading.”

About Me

Thinking, reading, writing, discussing all make for interesting and enriched learning. Since the late '80's, I have continued to build on enriching my students' learning. My path has lead me on a never-ending journey. This website is simply an extension of several decades in the teaching practice, at public and private schools, as well as at both of the local universities, Ottawa and Carleton. Reading and writing are cornerstone skills to becoming an autonomous learner. Helping students become more proficient in both of these domains is my focus.
